Dependable Off-The-Shelf based middleware systems for Large-scale Complex Critical Infrastructures
The DOTS-LCCI research project aims to define novel middleware technologies, models, and methods to assure and assess the resiliency level of current and future OTS-based LCCIs, to diagnose faults in real time, and to tolerate them by means of dynamic reconfiguration. Assuring the resiliency level of LCCIs is crucial to reduce, with known probabilities, the occurrence of catastrophic failures, and consequently, to adopt proper diagnosis and reconfiguration strategies.
The project will deliver novel contributions to the problem of assessing and assuring resiliency, in terms of:
- Modeling techniques, to be used by designers to improve their designs, and system operators to evaluate at runtime resiliency attributes (e.g., the expected time and location of a failure).
- Algorithms, strategies and architectures to enable reliable communication, and automatic on-line diagnosis and reconfiguration.
- Experimental evaluation and prototypal implementations of the proposed techniques, in order to demonstrate their effectiveness for LCCIs.
